Cleveland A. Thompson
“I stand before you today as Pastor Crackpot.” The congregation roared with laughter. “You want to know the truth about it, you’re just Deacon Crackpot, Sister Crackpot, Brother Crackpot, Choir Member Crackpot. Because God does the paradoxical thing; He says, ‘I am so much God, that I can put My glory into broken vessels!’”
It is this kind of pointed, colorful oratory that makes Bishop Cleveland A. Thompson’s sermons so memorable. Humor is typically the tip of his sword, along with universal, real-world applications of biblical precepts that help reveal truth and God’s saving grace to us in new ways. “Before the airline would allow me to travel from point A to point B, I first had to take responsibility for my own bag,”
Bishop Thompson said, preaching that morning about discipleship and personal accountability, jabbing a cautionary finger at his Emmanuel family, “Check your bags.”

Giving Back to God
What It Is, What It’s Not, How It Works The reason why prayer doesn’t work for most of us is, simply, that we don’t know what we’re doing. We receive precious little instruction about prayer, about what it is and what it’s not, about our responsibility in the process, about how to apply this resource. We miss the point that we are, in fact, praying wrong; that we are in a wrong place with God and we are asking God for the wrong things—and asking them arrogantly, at that. Then, when God doesn’t jump through hoops we’ve eloquently laid out, we begin to doubt His power and even His existence, not realizing that God always answers prayer. It’s just that His answer, His acts, are in the divine realm and operate far beyond human understanding. Trusting in this process is called “faith,” a choice to operate in a realm beyond what we can see and touch and understand. But to trust in a certain knowledge that God loves us and knows what is ultimately best for us.

The Emmanuel Experience
The Emmanuel Experience, our weekly main service, begins at 10:45 a.m. Expect a dynamic, moving, and deeply personal worship experience in an environment of high praise and solemn meditation. The Emmanuel Experience encompasses conservative, traditional values which also find contemporary and progressive expression. Our worship atmosphere finds a wide range of expression inviting to all people, young and young at heart, liberal and conservative. Please pray and spend time with God on your way—in your car, as you enter, as your trust and faith in God contributes to the efficiency of the Holy spirit’s ministry during worship. Come with an expecting heart, seeking to hear from God and experience His deliverance and peace.
Weekly Bible Study is held on Wednesdays apart from every first week of the month; where a special WOW (Worship on Wednesday) service at 6:30 P.M. Noon Day Bible Study is held every Thursday.
Beyond the Slogan
The worship experience should not begin and end on Sunday, but continue in our daily lives. We worship God in the way we live (Psalms 19:14), in the things we do, and even in the things we choose not to do (James 1:19). The Emmanuel Experience is, therefore, not about the singing and the preaching and the fellowship so much but about our decision to live lives pleasing to God. It is about our love for one another (1 John 4:7) and about our patience with each other. We welcome you to experience the richness of God’s love, and the new life that love can bring. Worship opportunities include 10:45 a.m. Sundays, with our main Bible Study taking place 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays. There are many other small group meetings, bible studies and activities taking place throughout the week. Weekly meetings are held virtually only. Please check our church calendar for details.
